Theme American Heritage Trail

Next Tour »

The name of the overall project is “USA Proud” and is a continuing series of photo tours to highlight some of the greatness in America. The proximity of the Nation’s Capitol with its many activities offers unique advantages not found anywhere else.

It made sense to partner with Ujena since they support “Buy American” and are a family operated business offering “Made in USA” craftsmanship. Their clothing was used over and over again for an extended period of time. The shoots were a field testing under actual conditions. The “metallics” didn’t fade, the appliqués, beading, ties and other detailing retained their sharp features. The “whites” didn’t turn.

All the shoots took place under less than optimal conditions. Hot sun, humidity, lotions, salt water, chlorine, cold, long finger nails, and constant wetness didn’t wear down the material. Using dryer heat and detergents didn’t cause raveling. So with the pricing and quality available at Ujena why even go anywhere else?

This is the 1st stop on our tour project and follows a 300 year old trail in and around the Nation’s Capitol. We started off in Georgetown, a neighborhood from the 1700’s that predates Washington. Then we used backdrops at the National Mall, Capitol Hill, Tidal Basin, USS Constellation, Andrews AFB, Ft. McHenry and Arlington.

At times, we literally walked down the same streets or stood in the same spots as our founding fore fathers. As you might expect the tourist crowds and security related issues were the major obstacles that had to be overcome. Using military parlance we adapted, improvised and overcame whenever necessary.

A special recognition is in order to the 89th Airlift Wing troops at Andrews AFB and National Park Service personnel for their valuable assistance and guidance.
